Ignorance

Last week I read about the death of an Indian film actress named Parveen Babi. I came across this news while I was searching for information on the statistics or patterns of mental illness, in particular Schizophrenia, in different continents. It has been my opinion that the culture where family or social involment was the greatest the cases of mental illness were very much lower. Although the reason could be the denial due to stigma attached to mental illness even though it's present.

In the illness like Schizophrenia it is very important to take the medication. Family support is very important too but is secondary. At times too much interference could work negative as well. All stress, good as well as bad, can prove too much for the sufferer.

There is so much ignorance about this illness that cases like these are not a surprise. In the countries without NHS people like this beautiful, telented woman are just lost; not because of lack of money but because of ignorance of the society who for one reason or the other fail to offer help and guidance.
