ALTRUISM

I argued at the time altruism was being discussed that there is no pure altruism. I am sure all the good deeds are done WITHOUT material expectations but I argued that there are many who show great altruism characteristics but at the base of their act there may be a slight hope of some recognition or achievement. In religious way there may be a wish to gain plus points to tell Almighty we have been good.

I was wrong. I take my arguments back. When I have heard and seen the examples of how some people have saved or tried to save the lives of people they didn't even know during this or some other disasters, I have no doubt of their acts of pure and true altruism. All the aid workers, Charity workers out in strange places, risking their own lives are also true heros. Who am I to judge them while I am sitting after enjoying a tasty meal, in my comfortable room in front of my PC? I bow my head with respect to you all aid workers.

It has annoyed me a little though when the media was slightly ctitical of the warning alarms in Tamilnadu in India that another wave of Tsunami could be approaching in an hour. It was unfortunate that those poor people were made to suffer more trauma by this false alarm but if there was a slightest doubt of it happening then would it not be better to inform people? The same media would have been critical if it had happened and no warning was given.
