Risky jobs

Been a cold but bright and sunny day. Perhaps because it was not damp or it could be the pain killers were working on the dog, whatever it may be but the dog was a little better today. We went up to the other place of work.

Today I saw one of those incidents in which you show your disgust, find reasons and although concerned put it down to the way the world is. It made me think though what is worth in life. Taking risks is a buzz at times. We go on funfare rides, drive fast cars, ride motorbikes, climb highest summits, take part in dangerous sports - all basically for a thrill, a buzz. Then there are some jobs that carry taking risks. Some well thought of jobs like fire fighters or police are known to carry risks but then there are others like security guards or cash delivery people we don't take much notice of.

There was a money delivery made. We were in the shop and saw three men with hoods etc. Running towards the delivery man. They caught up with him, dragged him, snatched the money box and started beating him up. The dog was barking, even with the limp and falling all over the place with the legs giving in, she was trying to ran up to them (I think, or perhaps running away, I don't know) luckily she was on the lead, shop door closed and alarmed ringing, it was all over in a few seconds. The most annoying part was a man in the shop making loud crying kind of wailling noise! I felt like shouting at him or slapping him one!

Makes me wonder if the job is worth the kind of risk some people have to take. When you do something for your own satisfaction you have a choice to take that risk or not but when you have to take a risk for putting food on the table do you still have that choice?

...And the answer is, in short, no.

I have a wife and one-year old baby that I have to provide for, and right now that means keeping my third-shift convenience store job. As I mentioned in one post on my blog, I've had officers from a local corrections facility come in and tell me how my job is more dangerous than theirs, and they work with convicted criminals every day! I can count at least two times within the past four months that I've had my life threatened by someone no more than 10 inches from my face for some stupid drunk-raging reason. It's not fun, it definitely doesn't qualify as "safe", but it's helping keep the family alive right now and that's all that matters. Do I enjoy the job? Occasionally. But, most of the time, the only thing that keeps me there is the dread of having to come home and explain to my wife why we don't have an income anymore.

That's all I'm saying here.

so when the police declared amnesty against the fire arms a few months back, they should have included all offensive weapons including bits of cultlery from a certain restaurant in London !! Sorry again for a bad joke, it's not a joking matter when some idiot is threatening you...I should know !
