London

Isn't it pathetic that despite knowing so many people and having so many friends I do not have anyone to go to London with me ! Mind you the ones who may go are not the ones I want to go with. In life every one has different objectives, choices and motives. As you get older it is hard to have friends just to hang out with. It was so nice when my mum and sister came to England and stayed with me for nearly 6 months. What ever I wanted to do and where ever I wanted to go they would love to go with me.

Isn't love a wonderful thing? When you love someone you want to make them happy by any means possible. Sure there are different choices and tastes for different people but generally when you want to make someone happy you would find a way to amend your differences.

Been thinking about going to London for a while to attend an event on Sunday. This is also an event connected with work with a little social element in it. The original plan was to go on Saturday with colleagues/friends and make a week-end of it. When you are with a large group of friends you find that there are smaller groups in which people are closer to one another. My main friend, call him Frank, has been the greatest support in work matters. When work politics make one weary of people I know I can always trust him. Anyway Frank, being older, I add, is retiring soon. He is not going to London this time.

I remember a story about London and Frank. You have to imagine a tiny, thin, short fellow with a white beard and bald head. He looks like the Captain Birds Eye, advert that used to be some years ago, bless him. He is calm and laid back all the time.

Neither of us has been to London many times, especially by train. Last time we went it was in trasit to go somewhere else. On the return journey Frank says instead of going on the tube we will follow other colleagues and got in the next taxi. On the way to Euston, him and the driver started talking politics and sight seeing. The taxi driver was so keen to show places of interest on the way that I was sure we will miss our train. As we arrived at Euston Frank was on the escalator ahead of me. I just bend down to lift the handle of my suitcase and as I come up there is no sign of Frank anywhere. There is me shouting Frank, Frank, going frantic, because I had both our tickets and the trains were nominated to make the price cheaper he just walked where ever without looking to see where I was! By the time I found him and we rushed to the station the train doors where closed and we were left, puffed out with the rush, on the platform. Now we need to buy the new tickets at the full price and lose the money on this one. Frank pushes me to customer services saying that I had won prizes for drama in school and was the prettier one so I should go and beg to change the ticket to the next train. After a lot of name calling and blame dishing out, I went and successfully conned the clerk into letting us use the same tickets.

There was a little time to get the next train so with Frank's pursuation I agreed to go for a drink. When it was time to make a start he remembered he wanted to buy some sandwiches. By the time he gets his turn in the queue and we get to the platform the next train is due to leave ! The man waving the flag on the platform got really angry and shouted to us for nearly missing the next train too! We just about managed to get in and I know at least 30% of my hair had gone grey with the stress. Next time we go any where I threatened to put Frank on the child's reins or the dog's lead!

Well, let's see how I do tomorrow on my own.
